Employment and training for youth (14-21 yrs). Programs provide youth with valuable<br />

skills training and a supplemental income. Need birth certificate, social security card and<br />

proof of DC residence and income.<br />

DC youth (14-21yrs). The time frame to apply for youth summer employment is January<br />

24 - February 15 th , 2014. Youth must register online and must have an exclusive email<br />

address (email address cannot be shared with someone else). Applicants undergo 2<br />

personal screenings before being awarded a summer job. First, the completed application<br />

is screened by DOES for placement suitability. Second, the application is forwarded to<br />

the respective employer who again screens the youth for aptness with that organization.<br />

Youth (16-21) who are out of school and need assistance obtaining and securing a<br />

marketable skill. Offers employability workshop, GED preparation, vocational skills<br />

training. Participants gain entry level employment in construction trades, hospitality,<br />

emergency medical. Starting salary $7.25 to $11 per hour depending on trade.<br />

In School Program -Youth (14–18) in grades 9 through 12. Academic enrichment,<br />

work-readiness, leadership development and life skills training to improve student’s<br />

capacity to transition from high school to independence.<br />

55 years + part-time employment and/or on-the-job training for clerical and home health<br />

aides and work site manager. Employment hours limited to 20 hours per week.<br />

DC residents (22 -54 yrs) 3-week readiness job training and subsidized job placement for<br />

up to six months. Eligibility: DC resident, not receiving any other income benefits (i.e.<br />

TANF, SSI, SSDI unemployment), valid government ID, and Social Security Card. Must<br />

pre-register to enroll. Applicants register at any DOES American Job Center. Mon-Fri<br />

8:30am to 5pm.<br />
