Income subsidies for DC grandparents who have legal custody of their grandchildren,<br />

great grandchildren, great nieces/nephews (other relationships are not eligible).<br />

Grandparents receive monthly financial assistance to help raise their grandchildren.<br />

Grandparents must complete training curriculum before being eligible for benefits and<br />

meet income guidelines for TANF. Applications are available online or call (202) 442-<br />

6100 to have an application mailed to you.<br />

Assists Ward 6 families involved with the Ministry in crisis with rent, mortgage,<br />

utilities, food, transportation, and medical expenses. Must have known involvement<br />

with the Capitol Hill Group Ministry.<br />

DC offers a number of programs to assist eligible, low-income residents with the cost<br />

of home energy (electricity, natural gas, home heating oil).<br />

Emergency Home Energy Assistance: Eligible residents may receive “one time<br />

benefit” up to $1,500 toward the cost of their home energy bill. If the resident’s<br />

energy supply has been disconnected or is pending disconnection the resident<br />

should go immediately Mon - Fri 8:30am to 4:30pm to the DC Energy Office to<br />

apply for assistance. To apply bring: Copies of recent utility bills, disconnection<br />

notice, proof of income, photo ID, proof of residency (lease, deed, mortgage). ID<br />

for all persons living in the household.<br />

Residential Assistance Discount (RAD): Reduces eligible resident’s arrearages<br />

for electricity bills (up to $240), gas bills (up to $189, water and sewer ($270), per<br />

year, to help maintain manageable electricity bills in the future. Awardees must<br />

agree to participant in a RAD budget management program.<br />

Customer Assistance Program (CAP)<br />

Provides eligible DC WASA customers with an exemption on water and sewer<br />

services of up to 3,000 gallons of water per month. Eligibility: individuals and/or<br />

families must meet residency and income guidelines.<br />
