Emergency housing and relocation expenses for DC tenants displaced due to: Fire,<br />

floods, government closures. Provides temporary hotel accommodations, storage<br />

expenses (up to 60 days), first month’s rent, security deposit and utility deposit. Legal<br />

advice and direct representation at judicial hearing.<br />

Handles wide range of matters involving the collateral consequences of a criminal<br />

arrest, conviction or an extended period of incarceration for PDS clients: Civil<br />

forfeiture, eviction, denial of public benefits, employment termination, termination of<br />

parental rights, and other family court proceedings, immigration, and academic<br />

expulsion. Special Education Advocates ensure that youth receive appropriate<br />

diagnostic assessment and IEP, and where appropriate, secure alternative educational<br />

programs.<br />

Juvenile Services Program (JSP) - Jamie Rodriguez, Coordinator<br />

Represents children at institutional disciplinary hearings and administrative<br />

community status review hearings. Advocates for youth regarding conditions of<br />

confinement in the District's secure facilities. Serves as a conduit between youth and<br />

their respective attorneys in connection with their placement at the New Beginnings<br />

Youth Development Center in Laurel, Maryland (DC’s committed facility), Youth<br />

Services Center(YSC) in Northeast DC (DC’s detention facility), and other DYRS<br />

placements including shelter, group homes, and residential treatment facilities.<br />

Implements programs and initiatives for juveniles in the community-setting.<br />

Community Re-entry Program (CRP) Responds to the legal and social service<br />

needs of those who are returning home from jail or prison. Provides legal education,<br />

referrals, and representation to DC Code Offenders. Areas of legal education include:<br />

Employment, housing, and family law. Facilitates the delivery of critical support<br />

services to returning persons by maintaining partnerships with community-based<br />

organizations. Assists clients with applications for pardons and, where eligible, for<br />

record sealing. Organizes annual Community Reentry & Expungement Summit.<br />

Institutional Services Program (ISP)<br />

Serves as the PDS liaison to the Federal Bureau of Prisons and to the various<br />

component parts of the DC corrections system to help protect the legal rights of<br />

incarcerated DC Code Offenders. Provides legal advice, information, and<br />

representation to DC Code Offenders who are confined in correctional facilities in<br />

DC and elsewhere throughout the country. Where possible and appropriate, monitors<br />

the conditions under which are incarcerated.<br />
