V. EDUCATION<br />

A. General Educational Development (GED): As of January 1, 2014 all GED tests &<br />

practice tests are computer-based. To take the exam testers must be computer literate.<br />

The GED is a nationally recognized measure of high school knowledge and skills. GED<br />

exams cover five core subjects: math, science, language arts (writing), social studies and<br />

language arts (reading). Full examinations require at least 7 ¼ hours to complete. Tests<br />

may be taken per subject or at one time (not recommended, as there are only 10 minute<br />

breaks between end and next start times per subject tests). Tests are available in English,<br />

Spanish, French, Braille, or audiocassette, the cost for the full GED computer exam is<br />

$120 ($24 per subject). If a subject test is failed, only that test need be retaken at $24 per<br />

subject. Register for the computer-based test and/or tutorial at: www.gedcomputer.com<br />

(MYGED). MyGED will provide test location, dates, and times. Practice test can be<br />

taken on a personal computer at home, office, library, etc. However, GED test takers<br />

must report, in person at the designed GED testing center with government issued ID.<br />

Scores are available within 24 hours after completing each subject of the exam or practice<br />

exam. In order to sit for a GED exam you must: be at least 16 years old, not enrolled in<br />

school during the previous 6 months, and digitally literate.<br />

GED Transcript and/or Verification: An official transcript of scores may be requested by<br />

mail or in person. A transcript is available to individuals who have earned a GED<br />

credential by successfully sitting for and passing the DC GED Exam. Test records for<br />

years 1997 - 2002 are maintained under an individual's social security number. Records<br />

prior to 1997 are filed by year. The test scores are confidential. An examinee must<br />

request in writing that an official score report or verification be sent to a specific<br />

institution, employer, or other organization. Written requests must include the examinee’s<br />

signature and social security number.<br />

A "verification" is a written statement under the signature and seal of the GED<br />

Administrator of the District of Columbia stating the examinee's pass or fail status and<br />

the date as confirmed by a records search. Mail completed form along with a money<br />

order made payable to GED Testing Center-OSSE to:<br />
