Provides payment subsidies for child care (children under age 13) while the custodial<br />

parent works, attends school or vocational training program. Recipients select from a<br />

list of pre-approved child care providers. To apply walk-in Mon-Fri 8:15am to 4:45pm<br />

to the ESA Congress Heights Center, SW. Must show proof of enrollment in an<br />

accredited program, birth certificate, SSN for each child needing care, and proof of<br />

DC residence. Once the voucher is awarded by ESA the parent must contact DC Child<br />

Care Connections for list of eligible child care providers (202) 862-1111<br />

Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP)<br />

Funds for back rent OR security deposit and 1 st month’s rent to avoid homelessness.<br />

ERAP can pay up to 5 months back rent (up to $6,000), security deposit and 1 st<br />

month’s rent (up to $900). Eligibility: DC resident, low income, homeless or pending<br />

eviction, household must contain either/or: child under 19 yrs, person over 60 yrs, or<br />

person living with a disability.<br />

Call first for referral to appropriate neighborhood ESA Center. SNAP (formerly Food<br />

Stamps) enables income eligible individuals and families to buy food staples (i.e.<br />

meat, poultry, fish, bread, cereals, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products, no prepared<br />

foods), or restaurant, carry-outs. Applicants must provide proof: income, DC<br />
