Cornwall<br />

David Giles (Sep 20<strong>13</strong>)<br />

Following spells in the <strong>Royal</strong> Navy<br />

<strong>and</strong> in hospitals in the South East,<br />

David was a GP for 30 years in North<br />

Cornwall. With a keen interest in<br />

healthcare quality, David was Chairman<br />

of the Healthcare Accreditation<br />

Programme for three years. He lives in<br />

Bude. David sits on the Patient Safety<br />

& Quality Group.<br />

Dianah Pritchett-Farrell (Sep 20<strong>13</strong>)<br />

Dianah is a retired University Lecturer,<br />

Examiner, Quality St<strong>and</strong>ards Assessor<br />

in social care <strong>and</strong> Senior Probation<br />

Officer, with a research background in<br />

doctor-patient communication, criminal<br />

justice, child protection <strong>and</strong> mental<br />

health. She is currently an International<br />

Assessor to the Care Council in<br />

Wales. Dianah was elected Chairman<br />

of the Foundation Trust Governors<br />

Association in August 2011 <strong>and</strong> is<br />

actively involved in national Governor<br />

development <strong>and</strong> research. Dianah sits<br />

on the CoG Co-ordinating Committee<br />

<strong>and</strong> also the CoG Effectiveness <strong>and</strong><br />

Constitution Review Working Groups.<br />

Cynthia Thornton (Sep 2014)<br />

Cynthia lives in Will<strong>and</strong>. She has had<br />

wide nursing experience, including ten<br />

years as a district nursing sister. She<br />

has a PGCEA <strong>and</strong> an MSc. in Care,<br />

Policy <strong>and</strong> Management. She held<br />

University teaching <strong>and</strong> research posts<br />

in London <strong>and</strong> Reading. Her published<br />

work focused upon Primary Healthcare<br />

for People with Learning Disabilities<br />

<strong>and</strong> Innovation <strong>and</strong> Change in<br />

Healthcare Practice. Cynthia sits on the<br />

Member & Public Engagement Group.<br />

Penny Lobb (Sep 2015)<br />

Penny was elected for a term of three<br />

years in September <strong>2012</strong>. Penny<br />

regards it as a pleasure <strong>and</strong> privilege<br />

to be involved with the governance<br />

of the Trust going forward. She has<br />

experience overseas in a multi-cultural,<br />

religiously diverse military environment,<br />

sitting on military boards of enquiry<br />

<strong>and</strong> medical committees. In the UK<br />

private sector Penny has experience<br />

of working with hospitals towards<br />

accreditation <strong>and</strong> production of<br />

guidance manuals. Penny sits on the<br />

Patient Safety & Quality Group.<br />

Anne Stobart (Sep 2015)<br />

Anne was elected as a Governor in<br />

September <strong>2012</strong> <strong>and</strong> will serve until<br />

August 2015. She has lived in Mid-<br />

<strong>Devon</strong> since 1990. Anne has taught<br />

in adult education, colleges <strong>and</strong><br />

universities for over thirty years. Anne<br />

has clinical, research <strong>and</strong> management<br />

experience in complementary health<br />

sciences, most recently in the School<br />

of Health <strong>and</strong> Social Sciences at<br />

Middlesex University <strong>and</strong> she retired<br />

from there in August 2010. Anne sits<br />

on the Patient Safety & Quality Group.<br />

Staff Governors<br />

Mike Jeffreys, Medical <strong>and</strong> Dental<br />

(Sep 2015)<br />

Mike has been a Consultant Physician<br />

in <strong>Exeter</strong> since 1994. During this time<br />

he was a member of the Executive<br />

Committee of the <strong>Exeter</strong> Primary Care<br />

Trust. Previous medical training was<br />

carried out at Guy’s <strong>Hospital</strong> London,<br />

Western Australia, Southampton,<br />

Manchester <strong>and</strong> Cardiff.<br />

Alison Wootton, Nursing <strong>and</strong><br />

Midwifery (Sep 2014)<br />

Alison is a Lead Nurse for the Medical<br />

Directorate at the RD&E, with 25<br />

years of nursing experience behind<br />

her. Alison sits on the Patient Safety &<br />

Quality Group.<br />

Loveday Varian, Admin, Clerical &<br />

Managers (Sep 2015)<br />

Loveday has worked for the NHS as<br />

a hospital-based medical secretary<br />

for the past thirty years. She joined<br />

the RD&E over five years ago <strong>and</strong> is<br />

a medical secretary within the renal<br />

team. Loveday sits on the Member &<br />

Public Engagement Group.
