David Giles (Sep 2013)
Following spells in the Royal Navy
and in hospitals in the South East,
David was a GP for 30 years in North
Cornwall. With a keen interest in
healthcare quality, David was Chairman
of the Healthcare Accreditation
Programme for three years. He lives in
Bude. David sits on the Patient Safety
& Quality Group.
Dianah Pritchett-Farrell (Sep 2013)
Dianah is a retired University Lecturer,
Examiner, Quality Standards Assessor
in social care and Senior Probation
Officer, with a research background in
doctor-patient communication, criminal
justice, child protection and mental
health. She is currently an International
Assessor to the Care Council in
Wales. Dianah was elected Chairman
of the Foundation Trust Governors
Association in August 2011 and is
actively involved in national Governor
development and research. Dianah sits
on the CoG Co-ordinating Committee
and also the CoG Effectiveness and
Constitution Review Working Groups.
Cynthia Thornton (Sep 2014)
Cynthia lives in Willand. She has had
wide nursing experience, including ten
years as a district nursing sister. She
has a PGCEA and an MSc. in Care,
Policy and Management. She held
University teaching and research posts
in London and Reading. Her published
work focused upon Primary Healthcare
for People with Learning Disabilities
and Innovation and Change in
Healthcare Practice. Cynthia sits on the
Member & Public Engagement Group.
Penny Lobb (Sep 2015)
Penny was elected for a term of three
years in September 2012. Penny
regards it as a pleasure and privilege
to be involved with the governance
of the Trust going forward. She has
experience overseas in a multi-cultural,
religiously diverse military environment,
sitting on military boards of enquiry
and medical committees. In the UK
private sector Penny has experience
of working with hospitals towards
accreditation and production of
guidance manuals. Penny sits on the
Patient Safety & Quality Group.
Anne Stobart (Sep 2015)
Anne was elected as a Governor in
September 2012 and will serve until
August 2015. She has lived in Mid-
Devon since 1990. Anne has taught
in adult education, colleges and
universities for over thirty years. Anne
has clinical, research and management
experience in complementary health
sciences, most recently in the School
of Health and Social Sciences at
Middlesex University and she retired
from there in August 2010. Anne sits
on the Patient Safety & Quality Group.

Mike Jeffreys, Medical and Dental
(Sep 2015)
Mike has been a Consultant Physician
in Exeter since 1994. During this time
he was a member of the Executive
Committee of the Exeter Primary Care
Trust. Previous medical training was
carried out at Guy’s Hospital London,
Western Australia, Southampton,
Manchester and Cardiff.
Alison Wootton, Nursing and
Midwifery (Sep 2014)
Alison is a Lead Nurse for the Medical
Directorate at the RD&E, with 25
years of nursing experience behind
her. Alison sits on the Patient Safety &
Quality Group.
Loveday Varian, Admin, Clerical &
Managers (Sep 2015)
Loveday has worked for the NHS as
a hospital-based medical secretary
for the past thirty years. She joined
the RD&E over five years ago and is
a medical secretary within the renal
team. Loveday sits on the Member &
Public Engagement Group.
