Waste Management<br />
The Trust has a Waste Management<br />
Group. The Group has been working<br />
to identify ways to minimise the Trust’s<br />
impact on the environment, exp<strong>and</strong><br />
recycling <strong>and</strong> reduce the cost of<br />
waste disposal. In <strong>2012</strong>/<strong>13</strong> the Trust<br />
recycling increased to 14% of the total<br />
amount of waste produced. During<br />
<strong>2012</strong>/<strong>13</strong> the following projects were<br />
implemented:<br />
• A higher percentage of dialysis<br />
plastic waste is now being recycled<br />
• Wood waste is now being recycled<br />
• Review of waste management<br />
contracts to gain better value for<br />
money <strong>and</strong> improve recycling.<br />
Sustainable Travel<br />
Plan<br />
The Trust has a Staff Travel/Car Parking<br />
Group. The Group has been working<br />
to promote <strong>and</strong> identify sustainable<br />
travel options to help reduce<br />
dem<strong>and</strong> on car parking <strong>and</strong> vehicle<br />
dependence. Staff, visitors <strong>and</strong> patients<br />
are encouraged to consider alternatives<br />
to using their car when coming to the<br />
Trust’s hospitals.<br />
During <strong>2012</strong>/<strong>13</strong> the following<br />
initiatives were implemented:<br />
• Increased frequency of park<br />
<strong>and</strong> ride bus service to Wonford<br />
<strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>and</strong> pilot study for shuttle<br />
service between Heavitree <strong>and</strong><br />
Wonford<br />
• Continuation of staff discount<br />
scheme on public transport<br />
bus services<br />
• Options for alternative travel<br />
schemes including additional<br />
cycle facilities, cycle routes <strong>and</strong><br />
prospective car share scheme<br />
• Energy Saving Trust Green<br />
Fleet review of the Trust’s own<br />
vehicle fleet.<br />
The Trust is currently preparing a green<br />
travel plan for the Wonford site which<br />
is expected to be completed during<br />
Spring 20<strong>13</strong>.
