2.4 ON-GOING CITY OF OAKLAND PROJECTS
2.4.1 Signal Interconnect Projects
Signal interconnect has been or is currently being installed in various locations in
Oakland. The following table summarizes these projects.

Broadway Transit Priority Project
• along Broadway from 3 rd Street to 20 th Street,
and along 20 th Street between Broadway and
Telegraph Avenue
42 nd Avenue/High Street Access Improvement
Project
• three intersections on High Street and three
intersections on 42 nd Avenue near I-880
Hegenberger Gateway Project
• along Hegenberger Road between Doolittle
Drive and Edgewater Drive
Port of Oakland’s 98 th Avenue Project
• from Doolittle to I-880 along 98 th Avenue
Fruitvale BART Transit Village Project
• from E. 12 th Street to San Leandro Street and
on San Leandro Street from Fruitvale Avenue
to 37 th Avenue
Description
• Signal controllers and cabinets were replaced
as part of this project.
• The North CBD interconnect ties into the San
Pablo interconnect, which ties into the planned
TMC. Sixteen Type 170E controllers, ten Type
336 cabinets and six Type 332 cabinets were
installed in this North CBD area. Construction
of this project has just been completed.
• The City of Oakland installed six new Model
170 controllers and Type 332 cabinets on
Hegenberger Road. Construction of this
project has just been completed.
• Provides for future tie-in to the planned TMC.
• 16 Model 170 controller assemblies with Model
332 cabinets will be installed.
• EVP devices will also be installed for transit
priority.
• Signals along the corridor will be retimed for
the new installations.
• The project design is 100 percent complete.
• new signal interconnect conduit to be installed
• widening of High Street and extension of 42 nd
Avenue
• realignment of Howard Street and Oakport
Street
• joint project between Port of Oakland and City
of Oakland
• installed a 2-inch signal interconnect conduit
with twisted wire pairs along Hegenberger
• the signal interconnect cable (SIC) has not yet
been terminated in the controller cabinets
• traffic signals are not yet coordinated
• included design of additional conduit for fiber
but because of budget limitations this work was
not selected for construction
• three Model 170 controllers and interconnect
conduit were installed
• In addition, 98 th Avenue has recently been
widened to six lanes and it now crosses under
Doolitle Drive reducing the number of traffic
signals on 98 th Avenue
• Fiber optic signal interconnect was installed
• Five Type 170E Controllers with Model 332
Cabinets were installed.
