6.7.3 Long-Term Communications Plan (10 to 20 years)
In the long term, the complete installation of fiber along all of the major corridors and
their connection to the backbone will provide full connectivity throughout the City. With
Citywide fiber deployed on all major corridors and a high-speed microwave connection
between the MSY and the PAB, the City will have a redundant communications
backbone that traverses the entire City.
All signalized intersections should be interconnected to the TMC. Remote intersections
should be interconnected via SSR or leased wireless service.
The Oakland TMC should monitor and control traffic and CCTV cameras throughout the
City, as well as coordinate with other TMCs. The TMC will be expanded to
accommodate the expansion of field devices and additional equipment.
A schematic diagram of the ultimate proposed communications network is depicted in
Figure 6.4.
