OF PAGES: 2CHAPTER: AdministrativeTOPIC:Facility Security and Sanitation Inspections_____________________Sheriff of <strong>Monroe</strong> <strong>County</strong>PURPOSE:The purpose of this directive is to establishpolicy for the <strong>Monroe</strong> <strong>County</strong> Detention Facilitiesthat an inspection of all facility security areasand devices, inmate living and activity areas,food service areas, and unoccupied areas isconducted at least weekly. Corrective actionmust be initiated as necessary. Theseinspections are for the purpose of locating fire,security, safety, and/or sanitation problems.SCOPE:This directive applies to the OperationsCommander, Site Commanders, and designees.PERSON RESPONSIBLE:Operations Commander and Site Commanders.POLICY AND PROCEDURES:The Operations/Site Commanders or otherqualified designees shall conduct and documenta fire, safety, security and sanitation inspectionof all areas of their facility at least once perweek. A comprehensive and thorough monthlyinspection by a fire and safety/sanitation officerwill also be conducted. These inspections willinclude recording deficiencies and correctiveactions. These inspections are in addition toother inspections that are conducted at leastannually by federal, state, and local sanitationand health officials. [FCAC 6.01j, 6.03, 14.01,15.09] [CORE-1A-01, 1C-05] [ALDF-1A-01, 1C-09, 2A-12, 2A-13]Inspections shall include, but are not limited to:[FCAC 6.01j, 5.09] [ALDF-4A-15] [CORE-4A-05]Inmate living and activity areas such asdayrooms, dining rooms, showers,recreation yards, perimeter, kitchen areasand equipment, laundry, etc. [FCAC 15.09]Security devices such as bars, locks,windows, walls, fences, protective screens,doors, alarms, lights, sprinklers, and othersecurity devices will be inspected carefullyto ensure that they are fully operational.Emergency keys will also be checked toensure they are in working order. [ALDF-2A-13]All storage and supply areas used forhazardous materials.
