OF PAGES: 2MONROECOUNTYSHERIFF’SOFFICECHAPTER: AdministrativeTOPIC:Volunteer Orientation Curriculum_____________________Sheriff of Monroe CountyPURPOSE:The purpose of this directive is to establishpolicy for the Monroe County Detention Facilitiesto establish curriculum requirements forvolunteer orientation to ensure that newvolunteers understand the facility and operatingpolicies and procedures. The volunteers shallacknowledge in writing that they will comply withthese policies and procedures. [ALDF-7D-17]SCOPE:This directive applies to all volunteers.PERSON RESPONSIBLE:Programs Services Director.POLICY AND PROCEDURES:Each volunteer will complete orientation,including signing the attendance sheet and otherrequired forms, prior to assignment. The lines ofauthority, responsibility, and accountability forvolunteers are specified during orientation.[ALDF-7F-05]The Programs Services Director is responsiblefor making additions, deletions, or changes tothe volunteer orientation class contents as theseoccur.The volunteer orientation curriculum shall bereviewed regularly for content andpresentation.The Programs Services Director shallincorporate required changes as soon aspossible after announcement and/orimplementation.REQUIREMENTS:At a minimum, the following basic curriculumrequirements shall be covered in the volunteerorientation:Security procedures; [FCAC 5.02a]Hostage plan; [FCAC 5.02b]Key control; [FCAC 5.02d]Interpersonal relationships; [FCAC 5.02e]Report writing; [FCAC 5.02f]Inmate rules and regulations; [FCAC 5.02g]Fire plan; [FCAC 5.02h]Evacuation plan; [FCAC 5.02i]Escape plan; [FCAC 5.02j]Social and cultural lifestyles of the inmates;[FCAC 5.02k]BOC - 1:031 Date of Original: 5/16/06 1Previous Revision Date(s): 5/16/06Dissemination Date: 8/15/11 Effective Date: 8/22/11
