OF PAGES: 1MONROECOUNTYSHERIFF’SOFFICECHAPTER: AdministrativeTOPIC:Volunteer Recruitment_____________________Sheriff of Monroe CountyPURPOSE:The purpose of this directive is to establishpolicy for the Monroe County Detention Facilitiesfor the Programs Services Division to recruitvolunteers to help with various programs in thefacilities. The Programs Services Director willfollow the guidelines set forth within this policy toaccomplish this recruitment. [FCAC 12.02]SCOPE:This directive applies to all Programs ServicesPersonnel.PERSON RESPONSIBLE:Programs Services Director.POLICY AND PROCEDURES:Volunteers can make an important contributionto an agency by providing a number of directservices to inmates, as well as by serving as alink between the facility and the community.Regular contacts will be made by the ProgramsServices Division to Alcoholic Anonymous,Narcotics Anonymous, Religious Organizations,School Board, and other organizations to findinterested volunteers to help in the facilities.The screening and selecting of volunteers allowsfor recruitment from all cultural andsocioeconomic parts of the community. [ALDF-7F-04]Programs Services Personnel shall supply theinterested volunteer with a "Handbook forVolunteer Staff". All volunteer shall sign theVolunteer Agreement stating they have read,understand, and will abide by the facility rulesand regulation and return it with their filled outvolunteer application to the Programs ServicesDirector. [FCAC 12.02]The Programs Services Director will have aFCIC/NCIC criminal history check conducted.Volunteers should be selected based on auniform screening process that is consistent withsecurity concerns.
