OF PAGES: 1MONROECOUNTYSHERIFF’SOFFICECHAPTER: AdministrativeTOPIC:Smoking Within the Monroe CountyDetention Facilities_____________________Sheriff of Monroe County[CORE-1A-11]InmatesPURPOSE:The purpose of this directive is to establishpolicy for the Monroe County Detention Facilitiesthat use of tobacco products within the confinesof the Monroe County Detention Facilities isprohibited except in designated areas.SCOPE:This directive applies to all personnel includingvisitors.PERSON RESPONSIBLE:All Personnel.POLICY AND PROCEDURES:StaffPersonnel will not smoke in the presence ofinmates.Personnel shall at no time provide inmates withtobacco products or the means to ignite them.Personnel shall at no time be in possession ofany tobacco product or tobacco accessorieswhile inside the security envelope of the facility.Tobacco products and accessories shall be keptlocked in your locker.During the booking/intake process, tobacco andtobacco accessories (papers, pipes, matches,lighters, etc.) will be placed in the inmate’sproperty bag. These items will be returned tothe inmate upon release.Tobacco products and tobacco accessories arecontraband. If found in the possession ofinmates, such items will be confiscated and willbe disposed of according to Bureau ofCorrections Control of Contraband writtendirective. They will not be placed in the inmates'property.Inmates found guilty of violating the smokingpolicy will be appropriately disciplined.VisitorsThose persons found in violation of the smokingpolicy while visiting the Monroe CountyDetention Facilities will be required to extinguishthe smoking materials or to leave the facilitiesuntil smoking is completed.Sale of Tobacco ProductsTobacco and tobacco accessories will not besold or maintained for dispensement within theMonroe County Detention Facilities.
