The On-Duty Shift Supervisor will assignDeputies as tour guides as required, but at notime will the security of the facility bejeopardized.The Deputy(s) will speak of the facility in generaland will at no time discuss security and/orsensitive issues with the tour group.The Deputy(s) will not discuss any inmate'spersonal behavior, case or express theirpersonal opinions about any inmate.Prior to conducting a tour, there will be a briefingof the facilities operations in a designated area.Walk-In RequestIndividuals who identify themselves to be of theLaw Enforcement Community requesting a tourwill be the only unscheduled tours that may beapproved and conducted.The Operations/Site Commander does not needto approve of this tour. As such, there are some basicBureau of Corrections’ general orders.SCOPE:This directive applies to the all employees.PERSON RESPONSIBLE:All Personnel.DEFINITIONS:Employee - For the purpose of this directive,employee includes any person who is working inany Monroe County Detention Facility. Thiswould include Monroe County Sheriff’s Office,Public Works, and contract employees (e.g.,Kitchen, Medical, Commissary, Guidance CareCenter, Department of Health, School District,etc.).POLICY AND PROCEDURES:Employees shall perform all other duties asdirected by their supervisor(s).Employees shall never leave their post unlessproperly relieved or advised to do so by theirsupervisor.Employees on duty shall remain attentive to theirpost at all times while on duty.Employees are required to discharge their dutiesin a calm and firm manner, and they shall acttogether and assist and protect each other in themaintenance of law and order.Employees in charge of MCSO premises, or anypart thereof, shall prevent loafing or loitering byany person not there on business.Employees shall not permit persons to remain inthe facility or MCSO vehicle unless they arethere on official business.Employees shall not conduct themselves in anindecent, lewd, or disorderly manner while on oroff duty.The relationship between female and maleemployees of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Officewhile on duty shall be businesslike; conductbetween such members shall be professionaland courteous.Employees shall not discriminate against anyfellow employee or inmate based on religion,national origin, race, creed, belief, color, genderor sexual preference.BOC - 1:011 Date of Original: Jan 1994 1Previous Revision Date(s): 9/15/99, 9/24/01, 8/21/06, 9/7/10Dissemination Date: 5/11/12 Effective Date: 5/18/12
