OF PAGES: 2MONROECOUNTYSHERIFF’SOFFICECHAPTER: AdministrativeTOPIC:Inmate Processing Fee_____________________Sheriff of Monroe CountyPURPOSE:The purpose of this directive is to establishpolicy for the Monroe County Detention Facilitiesto collect a $20.00 processing fee from allinmates who arrive in the jail to defrayprocessing costs.SCOPE:This directive applies to all Property Clerks.PERSON RESPONSIBLE:Program Services Director.ExceptionsIf an inmate is returned from State Prison for trialor appeals, they are exempt from the processingfee unless the return is for a new charge.If an inmate is being housed for another agency(e.g., U.S. Marshal, Immigration & CustomsEnforcement, Border Patrol, Customs, or anyothers the Sheriff deems exempt), they areexempt from the processing fee.Notification to InmatesInmates are advised of the processing feeduring admittance and in the Inmate Handbook.DEFINITIONS:Inmate's Individual Account - This is the inmate'scommissary account.Fee - $20.00 processing fee.POLICY AND PROCEDURES:ImplementationAll inmates that are processed into the MonroeCounty Detention Facilities will be charged a$20.00 processing fee.Payment of Processing FeeAfter an inmate has been processed into one ofthe Monroe County Detention Facilities, anindividual account will be opened in the inmate'strust fund account. Any monies that were in thepossession of the inmate will be deposited intothis account. Any additional funds sent ordropped off to the inmate will also be depositedinto this account.A Processing fee of $20.00 will be charged toeach non-exempt inmate's account in order todefray the cost of processing.
