Auto Use and Fuel ConsumptionThe 2006‐2008 American Community Survey, a three‐year average that replaces the “long form” of theUS Census, describes the method by which Town residents commute to work. The results of the ACSshow that 18,196 Town residents commute to work. Of the total of Summerville commuters, 15,428residents drive themselves to work, while over nineteen hundred (1,927) Summerville residents utilizeda carpool for their commute to work. It is estimated that as of 2008, no Summerville residents utilizesome sort of public transportation to commute to work. However, 90 Summerville residents use othermeans, such as bicycling, to commute, and 215 individuals walk to work. Finally, the mean one‐waytravel time to work for Summerville residents was approximately 27.3 minutes.
