Auto Use and Fuel ConsumptionThe 2006‐2008 American Community Survey, a three‐year average that replaces the “long form” <strong>of</strong> theUS Census, describes the method by which <strong>Town</strong> residents commute to work. The results <strong>of</strong> the ACSshow that 18,196 <strong>Town</strong> residents commute to work. Of the total <strong>of</strong> <strong>Summerville</strong> commuters, 15,428residents drive themselves to work, while over nineteen hundred (1,927) <strong>Summerville</strong> residents utilizeda carpool for their commute to work. It is estimated that as <strong>of</strong> 2008, no <strong>Summerville</strong> residents utilizesome sort <strong>of</strong> public transportation to commute to work. However, 90 <strong>Summerville</strong> residents use othermeans, such as bicycling, to commute, and 215 individuals walk to work. Finally, the mean one‐waytravel time to work for <strong>Summerville</strong> residents was approximately 27.3 minutes.
