One <strong>of</strong> the goals <strong>of</strong> that Plan is to preserve the natural beauty <strong>of</strong> the lands along the Ashley River inDorchester and Charleston counties and protect them from development pressures that have affecteddownstream areas <strong>of</strong> the river closer to Charleston.The <strong>Summerville</strong> area is fortunate to have a number <strong>of</strong> properties and corridors that are listed on theNational Register <strong>of</strong> Historic Places (NRHP).
