Figure 2.8 ‐ Capacity increase with Median (Bacons Bridge Rd – 2 to 4 Lanes)50000Number of Vehicles40000300002000010000Continuous Middle Turn LaneLandscaped Median0VolumeCapacityData: C & B Traffic PlanAlternative Scenarios – Suggested by the Planning CommissionTwo alternatives were suggested by members of the Planning Commission for Bacons Bridge Road. Thefirst alternative identified in Figure 2.9 is to widen Bacons Bridge Road from two to four lanes with alandscaped median, but retaining a two lane section between Edisto Road and Crestwood Drive to avoidwidening the bridge over Dorchester Creek; this reduces capacity for the section between Edisto Road andCrestwood Drive and consequently the level of service fails. The scenario identified in Figure 2.10 is to forgo the widening of Bacons Bridge Road, and to construct amedian between the two existing travel lanes. This alternative also reduces capacity for that particularsection, thus increasing corridor congestion. Therefore, both scenarios 2.9 and 2.10 are unsuccessful ineliminating congestion and increasing travel capacity along the full extent of Bacons Bridge Road.Figure 2.9 – Roadway LOS with twolane section between Edisto Road andCrestwood DriveFigure 2.10 ‐ Roadway LOS with only aplanted medianAppendix 1: BCDCOG Travel Demand Modeling Scenarios Page 5
