Recommended facilities and improvements include:• picnic tables with covers barbeque pits• natural walking trails mountain biking trails• camp sites with/without utilities nature preserve or wildlife habitat• shade trees and native landscaping drinking fountains• security lighting multi‐purpose open play areas• multi‐purpose courts playscape (up to 50+ children)• bicycle racks benches• trash receptacles/enclosures tennis courts• basketball courts softball and little league fields• soccer/football fields with goals sand volleyball courts• swimming pool or beach covered pavilions• restrooms off‐street parkingOPEN SPACE AREAS includereserved public lands dedicated aspermanent open space. These lands aregenerally owned by the localgovernment or dedicated throughprivate instrument as a developmentreserve. They are typicallyundeveloped and used for informalactivities. They may also serve as floodcollection areas during major stormevents. Other examples of open spaceareas include easements for drainagebasins, excess rights‐of‐way,greenways, and street esplanades.The gateway entry monument and treatment at the intersection of StateHighways 6 and 35 is a good example of public open space.Page 4-17
