Recommended facilities and improvements include:• picnic tables with covers barbeque pits• natural walking trails mountain biking trails• camp sites with/without utilities nature preserve or wildlife habitat• shade trees and native landscaping drinking fountains• security lighting multi‐purpose open play areas• multi‐purpose courts playscape (up to 50+ children)• bicycle racks benches• trash receptacles/enclosures tennis courts• basketball courts s<strong>of</strong>tball and little league fields• soccer/football fields with goals sand volleyball courts• swimming pool or beach covered pavilions• restrooms <strong>of</strong>f‐street parkingOPEN SPACE AREAS includereserved public lands dedicated aspermanent open space. These lands aregenerally owned by the localgovernment or dedicated throughprivate instrument as a developmentreserve. They are typicallyundeveloped and used for informalactivities. They may also serve as floodcollection areas during major stormevents. Other examples <strong>of</strong> open spaceareas include easements for drainagebasins, excess rights‐<strong>of</strong>‐way,greenways, and street esplanades.The gateway entry monument and treatment at the intersection <strong>of</strong> StateHighways 6 and 35 is a good example <strong>of</strong> public open space.Page 4-17
