InAlvin, 40.7 percent of the population was under the age 25 in 2000, comparedto 37.2 percent in Brazoria County, 38.8 percent in Angleton, 32.9 percent inManvel, and 36.2 percent in Pearland. As displayed in Figure 2.3, Percentageby Age, the percentage of persons over the age 65 is in the middle of thoseconsidered. Interestingly, the trend is shifting in Alvin as reflected by thechange that occurred between 1990 and 2000. The percentage of personsbelow 18 years of age increased by 0.7 percent while the percentage under theage 25 decreased from 41.2 percent to 40.8 percent and persons over 65 yearsincreased from 9.2 percent to 9.4 percent. This recent trend reflects thenumber of young families moving into Alvin, which generally have moremedian persons per households than do other age groups.The characteristics of ethnicity in Alvin (outer circle) and the State of Texas(inner circle) are displayed in Figure 2.4, Ethnic Composition.
