Parks & RecreationINVENTORY <strong>of</strong> Facilities and Spaces • • •The foundation for establishing a “firstclass”parks and recreation systembegins with the availability, location,and condition <strong>of</strong> the existing cityownedparks and recreation areas. Indetermining the need for additionalparkland, recreational facilities, andpark‐related improvements, the firststep is to assess the level <strong>of</strong> sufficiency<strong>of</strong> the existing parks in meeting theneeds <strong>of</strong> the community. Thisassessment is done first by comparingthe acreage <strong>of</strong> parks to standards forcities <strong>of</strong> comparable size and, secondly,by soliciting the input <strong>of</strong> citizens.Integral to park planning is a thoroughevaluation <strong>of</strong> the existing system.
