Also, forlocal government information, go to:www.hud.gov/fundsavl/html.HUD E‐MapsThe Department <strong>of</strong> Housing and Urban Development developed anapplication on HUDʹs website intended to help people learn aboutenvironmental matters that affect their communities throughout the U.S.HUD E‐MAPS is a Web‐enabled version <strong>of</strong> Community 2020TM s<strong>of</strong>twarewhich, combines HUD data with EPA environmental databases. TheCommunity 2020 CD‐ROM s<strong>of</strong>tware can be purchased by community groupsand individuals at a cost <strong>of</strong> $250.00 for a region or $300.00 for the wholecountry. The s<strong>of</strong>tware provides detailed, site‐specific financial, managerial,demographic and program information for virtually every entitlement orcompetitive grant awarded by HUD since 1992. Over 1,000 communities arerequired to submit a five‐year Consolidation <strong>Plan</strong> for the expenditure <strong>of</strong> over$7.0 billion federal funds for an array <strong>of</strong> community development activities.Copies <strong>of</strong> the Community 2020 s<strong>of</strong>tware are provided to the Consolidation<strong>Plan</strong> communities to streamline the application and reporting procedures forHUD’s major community development programs and to facilitate citizenshaving access to information on how funds are being spent in theircommunity. The E‐Maps s<strong>of</strong>tware springs from HUD’s strong conviction thatevery American has the right to know about the quality <strong>of</strong> the environmentwhere they live, work, play and raise their families. Information about the E‐Maps program is available at: www.hud.gov/emaps.Hope VI Revitalization GrantsThe specific elements <strong>of</strong> public housing transformation that have proven keyto HOPE VI include: Changing the physical shape <strong>of</strong> public housing;establishing positive incentives for resident self‐sufficiency andcomprehensive services that empower residents; lessening concentrations <strong>of</strong>poverty by placing public housing in non‐poverty neighborhoods andpromoting mixed‐income communities; and forging partnerships with otheragencies, local governments, nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations, and private businessesto leverage support and resources. Only public housing authorities areeligible to apply for these funds, but park and recreation agencies can contractto develop recreation facilities at public housing sites and to providecommunity and supportive service programs for residents, including thoserelocated as a result <strong>of</strong> revitalization efforts.
