The program providesfunding to local governments to be used in conjunction with Section 108 loanguarantees to finance redevelopment <strong>of</strong> brownfield sites. This program is notlimited to industrial and/or commercial property. Approximately $25 millionis available annually for eligible local communities. Information about theprogram is available at: www.hud.gov/bedifact.cfm.Contact: Lisa Peoples, (202) 708‐0614 or Lisa_Peoples@hud.gov.Community Development Block Grant Entitlement ProgramsThe Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program awards grantsto entitlement community grantees to carry out a wide range <strong>of</strong> communitydevelopment activities directed toward revitalizing neighborhoods, economicdevelopment, and providing improved community facilities and services.HUD awards CDBG funds directly to metropolitan cities and urban counties(entitlement communities), or to states for distribution to non‐entitlementcommunities. Any activity undertaken using CDBG funds must benefit lowand moderate‐income persons, prevent or eliminate slums or blight oraddress conditions that present a serious and immediate threat to the healthand safety <strong>of</strong> the community. Brownfields redevelopment and publicrecreation activities (especially for children) are eligible, but must beincorporated into local government priorities through the communityʹsConsolidated <strong>Plan</strong> and annual action plan. Eligible entities include cities orurban counties. There are field <strong>of</strong>fices in most states, cities or urban countiesthat accept these applications. There is also a state program that handlessmaller communities. Each urban area is allocated a formula‐derived amount<strong>of</strong> funds and must submit a consolidated plan to the field <strong>of</strong>fice.
