Health provider capacityHealth providers should be trained to manage drug <strong>and</strong> food interactions in theircontexts <strong>and</strong> have access to updated information on the management of drug <strong>and</strong>food interactions. Supervisors of health providers should provide health providerswith support supervision in the management of drug <strong>and</strong> food interactions <strong>and</strong> helpthem address gaps in knowledge or skills. Adequate knowledge <strong>and</strong> appropriate skillsto carry out good nutritional assessment are critical for the successful managementof food <strong>and</strong> interactions.<strong>Nutrition</strong>al assessment during counseling on the nutritionalmanagement of drug <strong>and</strong> food interactions (slide 20)The nutritional assessment at the beginning of the counseling session will help thehealth worker or counselor underst<strong>and</strong> the client’s feeding practices, medication,ability to access different foods, <strong>and</strong> constraints. This information will help theclient address his/her food <strong>and</strong> drug interactions.
