• Finally, a study of AIDS patients in the United States showed that treatinganemia with synthetic erythropoietin slowed HIV-disease progression andincreased survival time.Nutrition and HIV/AIDS: A summary (slide 18)• HIV affects nutrition by decreasing food consumption, impairing nutrientabsorption, and causing changes in metabolism, HIV associated wasting, andbody-habitus.• Nutritional status also affects HIV disease progression and mortality.• Improving and maintaining good nutrition may prolong health and delay HIVdisease progression.
