6th International Congress of DipterologyCladistic approach to Cecidomyiidae (Diptera) phylogeny, with a revised subfamily classificationHippa, H. (1) & P. Vilkamaa (2)(1) Swedish Museum of Natural History, PO Box 50007, SE-104 05 Stockholm, Sweden(2) Finnish Museum of Natural History, Zoological Museum, PO Box 17, FI-00014University of Helsinki, FinlandA cladistic analysis of Cecidomyiidae was performed, with representativegenera from all usually recognized tribes or subfamilies as the ingroup, andwith Rangomarama (Rangomaramidae or Sciaridae: Rangomaraminae) asthe outgroup. The resulting cladogram has the following successive mainclades (the rest of the ingroup always being the sister group of the formerclade), suggesting a subfamily rank for the following taxa: Catotrichinae,Lestremiinae, Catochinae, Heteropezinae, Strobliellinae, Micromyinae, andCecidomyiinae + Porricondylinae. The placement of Heteropezinae variesfrom that above to the sister group of Cecidomyiinae + Porricondylinae. There is a monophyletic Porricondylinae including Porricondylini,Asynaptini, Diallactini and Winnerzini, but the status of Leptosynini, which usually is placed in Porricondylinae, remains uncertain.Thaumacecidomyiinae is a synonym of Diallactini.Key Words: Cecidomyiidae, phylogeny, subfamilies∗∗∗∗∗∗∗∗∗∗104
