About 804 species have beendescribed in approximately 108 families in Iran and new ones are beingadded at a rapid rate. Members of this order are involved in thetransmission of more pathogens of diseases of men and animals than anyother group of Arthropods; hence medical, urban and stored-productsentomology must be extensively familiar with the Diptera. It is necessaryto combat this flies because of their economic and Hygiene importance.This project was carried out to survey of this insect group. Samples weretaken by random selection of 75 silos, storage houses, mills, bins,bakelies…etc. In the Mahabad area in this research 5 species belonging to4 families were collected and identified, one beneficial species reported forthe first time. In the area surveyed all storage and food processingbuildings except silos and government storage houses are in poorconstruction .The private storage houses, mills, bins, bakeries wereconstructed from sun dried mud bricks, mud and wooden roofs were muchmore infested. Diptera were collected are:Family Calliphoridae (blow flies)1- Calliphora vicina R.-D. (=erythrocephala Meigen)2- Calliphora vomitoria (L.)The adults begins oviposition 5-9 days after emergence at 28 cº. The eggperiod varies according to the age of the egg when laid out the temperatureand humidity most commonly 10-14 h. both species also deposit livingnewly hatched larvae on bacon, fish, cooked meat, meat, ham ,smokedmeat or fish, cheese, jombon and sausage .Family Piophilidae1-Piophila casei (L.) the cheese skipper224
6th International Congress of DipterologyThe larva of the cheese skipper living on softer and riper varieties ofcheese.The flies will infest proteinaceous foods such as ham, smoked meator fish, jombon and sausage.Family Drosophilidae1- Drosophila melanogaster MeigenThe females lay from about 450-950 eggs at the rate of 15-30 per day. Thelarvae hatch and burrow in to the breeding material. It feeds on fig, dateand dried vegetable materials.Family Omphralidae1- Omphrale fenestralis (L.) window pane flyThe white thread like worm sometimes attains a length of about threefourthsof an inch.
