6th International Congress of DipterologyFine morphology of Sciomyzidae (Diptera) female headsensory systemGaponov S.P., L.N. Khitzova & A.S. SergeevVoronezh State University, Universitetskaya pl., 1. 394000 Voronezh. RussiaThe morphology of the sensory system of Sciomyzidae from generaPherbellia, Pteromicra, Coremacera, Elgiva, Sepedon, Limnia, Tetanoceraand Trypetoptera was investigated using scanning electron microscope.Distance chemoreceptors are presented by several types of olfactorysensilla, located mainly on the antennae (especially on the flagellum andarista). Olfactory cavities with basiconic sensilla were found at theflagellum. The short scapus bears several trichoid sensilla, while a groupof trichoid olfactory sensilla is located on the pedicel. Basiconic sensillaare usually surrounded with microtrichia and are distinguished by theirshape and thickness. Cylindrical and conic hair with narrow or round topare widespread. In Pteromicra, they are hook-shaped. The flagellum hascuticle invaginations, represented by double-walled coeloconic sensilla(their cuticle is perforated with multiple pores). Besides basiconic andcoeloconic sensilla, there are thichoid and club-shaped sensilla. Trichoidsensilla are thick-walled receptors with an olfactory sensila structure, whileclub-shaped sensilla are typical thin-walled olfactrory ones. Basiconocsensilla can be smooth and grooved. The arista is covered with short andsparse hair (Pherbellia), but in some species this hair forms compactclusters. The arista can also be covered with chetae (Sepedon), or withlong and dense hair (Сorетасеrа). In Tetanocera and Pteromicra arista, hair is located irregularly (dense at the base and sparse at the apex ofarista). Contact chemical receptors (gustatory sensilla) are located at thelabellum in rows (Trypetoptera punctulata, Sepedon sphegea) orirregularly (Tetanocera robusta). Trichoid, basiconic and coeloconicsensilla are located on the labellum of all studied species. Basiconicsensilla are by far the most numerous and usually form receptor fields. Insome species basiconic sensory chetae are found between the ommatidia(mechanoreceptors). Mechanoreceptors form a field for receiving84
