Degree Information/The Degree of Master of Fine Arts 1176. For graduate courses of three weeks’ duration or less, taken at other institutions, upto 1 hour of credit may be obtained for each five-day week of coursework. Each weekof coursework must include at least 15 contact hours.7. Continuing education courses may not be used for graduate credit.8. Extension courses are not acceptable for credit.Exceptions will be permitted only in unusual cases and when petitioned by the student’sadvisory committee and approved by the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and ProfessionalStudies.Foreign LanguagesA foreign language is not required for the Master of Fine Arts in Visualization degree.InternshipAn internship is not required as part of the Master of Fine Arts in Visualization degreerequirement in order for the student to graduate. A student can receive credit forup to 8 hours of internship.Time LimitAll degree requirements must be completed within a period of seven consecutiveyears for the degree to be granted. A course will be considered valid until seven yearsafter the end of the semester in which it is taken. <strong>Graduate</strong> credit for coursework that ismore than seven calendar years old at the time of the final examination (oral or written)may not be used to satisfy degree requirements.Final Presentation and Written DocumentThe candidate must conduct a final presentation and submit a written document reflectingthe presentation’s content. This is done by dates announced each semester orsummer term in the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies Calendar. The Officeof <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies must be notified in writing of any cancellations.To be eligible to conduct the final presentation, a student’s GPR must be at least 3.000for courses on the degree plan and for all courses completed at Texas A&M which areeligible to be applied to a graduate degree. There shall be no grades of D, F or U for anycourse listed on the degree plan. To absolve a deficient grade, the student must repeat thecourse at Texas A&M University and achieve a grade of C or better. All coursework onthe degree plan must have been completed with the exception of those hours for whichthe student is registered. Additionally, all English language proficiency requirementsmust be satisfied prior to scheduling the presentation and written document.The candidate is not eligible to petition for an exemption from the final presentation.A request for permission to hold and announce the final presentation must be submittedto the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies a minimum of 10 working days inadvance of the scheduled date for the presentation. A presentation that is not completedand reported as satisfactory to the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies within 10working days of the scheduled presentation date(s) will be recorded as a failure. A studentmay be given only one opportunity to repeat the final presentation for the master’sdegree and that must be within a time period that does not extend beyond the end of thenext regular semester (summer terms are excluded).
