Degree Information 51Certificate in Petroleum Geoscience. The <strong>Graduate</strong> Certificate in Petroleum Geoscienceis an interdisciplinary program in the Department of Geology and Geophysicsdesigned to enhance both critical thinking and the technical skills that serve as the scientificfoundation for practicing petroleum geoscience. The program requires a minimumof 18 semester credit hours from Geology and Geophysics and optionally PetroleumEngineering as part of a regular graduate program. In addition, workshops, lecturesand field trips enable students to learn about pressing scientific problems in petroleumexploration and production. Students are required to take a core of courses includingreflection seismology and seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy and basin analysis,3-D structure, rock properties and one seminar per year are required. In addition,students must choose at least one course from an approved list of supporting coursesin both the Department of Geology and Geophysics and Petroleum Engineering. TheCertificate is conferred upon successful completion of a MS or PhD degree program inGeology or Geophysics including the required courses. The certificate is to provide students from avariety of majors an interdisciplinary perspective on the science and practice related tothe prevention of mental, emotional, and physical health problems and the promotion ofwell-being in these same domains.Certificate of Quality Engineering for Regulated Medical Technologies. Qualityengineering principles are mandated by federal and state regulations for clinical facilitiesand for the design, testing, and manufacture of medical technologies (such aspharmaceuticals and imaging, diagnostic, and therapeutic devices). Completion of thiscertificate requires specific instruction in quality engineering and regulation of medicaltechnologies; moreover, candidates must go beyond understanding concepts and demonstrateappropriate usage of quality engineering principles in a medically related internship.Given the challenging demands for both better outcomes and lower costs inmedical care, candidates for this certificate are expected to be entering a high-growth jobmarket for engineers.Regulatory Science in Food Systems <strong>Graduate</strong> Certificate prepares professionalsto meet the challenges of the 21st century food and feed supply chain. The 12 credit hourweb-based instruction is offered at a distance by faculty who are regulatory professionalsand impart their knowledge on creating tools, standards, and practices to improve thecompliance and protection of food systems. Students who complete the certificate havethe knowledge and skills to interpret U. S. and international regulatory guidelines andstandards, assess the impact of existing and emerging regulations on business operations,establish practical strategies for compliance and reporting, lead regulatory reviews, andnavigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.Applicants must have an accredited bachelor’s degree and meet admission requirementsfor graduate study at Texas A&M University.
