Admission 2033. An application from a returning student who has not attended Texas A&M for oneyear or more and who was classified as G6 when last enrolled will be forwarded to therespective department for approval. A G6 student in a certification program, however,will not have to reapply if he/she has attended Texas A&M within the precedingyear.4. The department, college, or Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies is responsiblefor placing academic or administrative blocks. The Office of Admissions willcheck for blocks before a student is readmitted.International Admission StatusAn applicant from another country seeking admission to graduate studies must meetthe same requirements for admission as applicants from the United States. In addition,he or she must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak and understand the Englishlanguage. A prospective student whose native language is not English may take eitherthe Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English LanguageTesting System (IELTS) exam. Both exams are offered at locations around theworld. Applications for these exams together with additional information about theseexaminations may be found on their websites; TOEFL information may be obtained atwww.ets.org/toefl and IELTS information from www.ielts.org. Currently, the TOEFLis offered in more than 200 locations around the world and the IELTS is offered inmore than 400 world-wide venues. Applicants from non-English speaking countriesmust present a TOEFL score of at least 550 paper-based, 80 Internet-based or an IELTSscore of at least 6.0 overall band to be admitted to graduate studies. An applicant maybe exempt from the TOEFL requirements by completing all credits of a baccalaureatedegree or higher in the United States or scoring a 400 or 146 (on new scale) or higher onthe Verbal section of the GRE. Additionally, applicants from the following countries willbe exempt from the TOEFL requirement:American SamoaGuyanaAustraliaIrelandBahamasJamaicaBarbadosLiberiaBelizeNew ZealandCanada (except Quebec)Sierra LeoneDominicaTrinidad/TobagoGrenadaUnited KingdomGrand CaymanU.S. Pacific TrustSome departments reserve the right to require a TOEFL score even though it may bewaived by one of the above criteria.Official TOEFL scores are reported directly by the Educational Testing Service toTexas A&M University using institution code 6003.
