Normal behavior in the dog, cat, horse, cattle and swine; principles of a wide range of behaviorproblems in several species; fundamental aspects of the human-animal bond with specific applicationsand examples; nature, importance and application of veterinary and professional ethics. Prerequisite:Enrollment in the third year of professional curriculum.935. Surgery I. (2-4). Credit 4. Diagnostic and surgical procedures of organ systems. Prerequisite: Enrollmentin the third year of professional curriculum.936. Surgery II. (1-2). Credit 2. Builds on principles developed in Surgery I including aseptic technique,proper use of surgical instruments and gentle tissue handling with emphasis on basic orthopedic principles.Prerequisite: Third year classification in veterinary medicine in good standing.940. Houston SPCA: Alliance for Animal Welfare and Shelter Medicine. (0-35). Credit 2. Clinicalrotation at the Houston-SPCA, emphasizing the veterinarian’s role in all aspects of animal evaluationand care, and the treatment of rescue and shelter animals; emphasis on diseases, disorders, injuries, andtreatment needs of diverse species, and exposure to emergency response and high volume animal rescueoperations.
