Degree Information/The Degree of Master of Science 69A student pursuing the non-thesis option is not allowed to enroll in 691 (Research)for any reason and 691 may not be used for credit toward a non-thesis option Master ofScience degree. A maximum of 4 credit hours of 684 (Professional Internship), 8 credithours of 685 (Directed Studies), and up to 3 credit hours of 690 (Theory of Research) or695 (Frontiers in Research) may be used toward the non-thesis option Master of Sciencedegree. In addition, any combination of 684, 685, 690 and 695 may not exceed 25 percentof the total credit hour requirement shown on the individual degree plan. All requirementsfor the non-thesis option Master of Science degree other than those specifiedabove are the same as for the thesis option degree.Time LimitAll degree requirements must be completed within a period of seven consecutiveyears for the degree to be granted. A course will be considered valid until seven yearsafter the end of the semester in which it is taken. <strong>Graduate</strong> credit for coursework whichis more than seven calendar years old at the time of the final examination (oral or written)may not be used to satisfy degree requirements.A student who has chosen the thesis option must have the final corrected version ofthe thesis cleared by the Thesis Office no later than one year after the final examination,or approval of a petition for exemption from the final exam, or within the seven-yeartime limit, whichever occurs first. Failure to do so will result in the degree not beingawarded.Application for DegreeA graduate degree is conferred at the close of each regular semester and 10-week summersemester. A candidate for an advanced degree who expects to complete his/her workat the end of a given semester must apply for graduation by submitting the electronicapplication for degree to the Office of the Registrar and by paying the required graduationfee to the Fiscal Department no later than the Friday of the second week of the fallor spring semester or the Friday of the first week of the first summer term. The electronicapplication can be accessed via the student’s Howdy portal. A cancellationmade after the application deadline will not receive a refund of the diploma fee.Students who have completed all their degree requirements will not be allowedto cancel their graduation. The Registrar attempts each semester to balance the sizeof each ceremony. A student should check the website of the Office of the Registrar atgraduation.tamu.edu to determine the date and time of his/her graduation ceremony.
