202 AdmissionRegular Admission StatusAdmission to graduate programs at Texas A&M University is evaluated by individualdegree programs. The overall admission criteria for the University are based on the entirerecord of the applicant and availability of departmental resources. The items consideredinclude:• holding an accredited baccalaureate degree (of at least three years) from a college,institution or university of recognized standing, or its equivalent, guarantees considerationfor admission,• an official score on a standardized test is required unless otherwise specified by thegraduate program to which an applicant is applying. A program can request exceptionsto the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies. The scores can only beevaluated in a manner which complies with Chapter 51, Subchapter W of the TexasEducation Code, Admissions and Scholarship policies for <strong>Graduate</strong> and ProfessionalPrograms,• transcripts, official transcript (with degree confirmation),• letters of recommendation,• professional and/or academic experience and performance,• promise of ability to pursue advanced study and research satisfactorily,• adequate preparation to enter graduate school in the specific discipline or field ofstudy,• Statement of Purpose essay.In addition to the above University admission requirements, some colleges, departmentsand programs require indicators of success, such as a portfolio or personal interview.Each applicant is directed to check the specific program admission requirementsand deadlines.During <strong>2013</strong>–<strong>2014</strong>, the GRE and GMAT will be given at various centers, includingTexas A&M University, throughout the United States and in other countries. The GREis also offered by computer at Texas A&M University which allows a more rapid scorereporting. To determine the most convenient locations to take either the GRE or GMAT,prospective applicants should write to either the appropriate division of the EducationalTesting Service, Princeton, NJ, or to Data and Research Services, Texas A&M University,at the address, or call the telephone number, given in the front of this catalog. Allapplicants to Mays Business School (MBA, EMBA, MS, MRE, PhD) should referto the website mays.tamu.edu and use the Mays online application system.Applicants who do not possess a degree considered to be equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’sdegree or higher will be denied admission.Readmission to <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies(A student who has previously enrolled in <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies at TexasA&M University.)1. A returning graduate student (G7, G8, G9) who has attended Texas A&M Universitywithin the past 12 months will not have to submit an application for readmission.2. An application from a returning graduate student (G7, G8, G9) who has not attendedTexas A&M for a period of over one year will be sent to the respective departmentfor approval before the student is readmitted.
