Degree Information/The Degree of Master of Architecture 85Time LimitAll degree requirements must be completed within a period of seven consecutiveyears for the degree to be granted. A course will be considered valid until seven yearsafter the end of the semester in which it is taken. <strong>Graduate</strong> credit for coursework whichis more than seven calendar years old at the time of the final examination (oral or written)may not be used to satisfy degree requirements.Application for Degree<strong>Graduate</strong> degrees are conferred at the close of each regular semester and 10-week summersemester. A candidate for an advanced degree who expects to complete his/her workat the end of a given semester must apply for graduation by submitting the electronic applicationfor degree to the Office of the Registrar and by paying the required graduationfee to the Fiscal Department no later than the Friday of the second week of the fall orspring semester or the Friday of the first week of the first summer term. The electronicapplication for degree can be accessed via the student’s Howdy portal. Cancellationmade after the application deadline will not receive a refund of the diplomafee. Students who have completed all of their degree requirements will not beallowed to cancel their graduation. The Registrar attempts each semester to balancethe size of each ceremony. Thus, the makeup of the ceremony by colleges does changefrom semester to semester. Graduation times are posted each semester on the website ofthe Office of the Registrar. A student should check the website at graduation.tamu.edu todetermine the date and time of the graduation ceremony.The Degree of Master of ArchitectureThe Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture offers a program ofgraduate study intended to provide its graduates with the requisite educational backgroundto enter the professional practice of architecture and its numerous variants and/or to prepare them for further graduate studies.The Master of Architecture (MArch) is a non-thesis degree and requires the completionof a minimum of 52 hours of coursework and a satisfactory comprehensive finalexamination. Holders of the Bachelor of Environmental Design (BED) degree fromTexas A&M University and holders of other four-year pre-professional architectural degreeswill enter the program directly, subject to admission approval by the department.Holders of other baccalaureate degrees will normally be required to complete a CareerChange Program (a structured three-semester leveling sequence) to attain BED equivalency.Residence (See Residence Requirements, page 34.)A student must complete 12 credit hours in resident study at Texas A&M University tosatisfy the residence requirement for the Master of Architecture degree.Students who are employed full-time while completing their degree may fulfill totalresidence requirements by completion of less-than-full time course loads each semester.In order to be considered for this, the student is required to submit a Petition for Waiversand Exceptions along with verification of his/her employment to the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong>and Professional Studies.
