GonzalezThe Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture offers two degrees at the master’s level: theMaster of Science (MS) in Curriculum and Instruction (thesis) and the Master of Education (MEd) inCurriculum and Instruction (non-thesis). There are two delivery options for students seeking the Meddegree: on-campus or online. The online MEd has two options, generalist and elementary education.The on-campus MEd and MS offer the same specializations as described below in the PhD.The Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture offers the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Curriculumand Instruction. This program is offered to those with an interest in the philosophical, theoreticaland methodological constructs of both applied and basic quantitative and qualitative research. Theacquisition of knowledge evolves from conceptualizing the procedures of educational inquiry as theyrelate to both the consumer and the practitioner. Specializations within this research-based curriculumare designed to encompass the original independent research interests of the individual. They include:Culture and Curriculum, English as a Second Language, Mathematics Education, Science Education,Reading and Language Arts Education, and Urban Education.The Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture also offers an Online Executive Doctor ofEducation (EdD) in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Educational Leadership. The programrequires a minimum of 64 semester credit hours beyond the master’s degree, all of which are presentedthrough a web-based delivery system. The certification program requires the completion of twenty-one (21) graduate semestercredit hours and the successful completion of the appropriate State certification examinations.Participants may apply the graduate certification coursework toward the Master of Education (MEd)degree in Curriculum and Instruction. In addition, program participants will serve a full public schoolyear internship either in a salaried or non-salaried position. The admission deadline for the post-baccalaureatecertification program is early December.
