264 Texas A&MHealth Science Center675. Water and Environmental Public Health. Credit 3. To provide a broad understanding of the elementsof water and environmental public health and how these major environmental issues affect oursociety. It will examine water-related health issues, scientific understanding of causes and associations,and possible future approaches to understanding the major environmental health problems in developedand developing countries.678. Ergonomics of the Lower Back. Credit 3. Fundamental topics upon which models for the preventionand control of low back pain are constructed. Focus is on ergonomic assessment, design, and improvement,including biomechanics, anthropometry, strength assessment, and implementation of controls.Prerequisite: Approval of instructor.679. Ergonomics of the Upper Extremities. Credit 3. Fundamental topics upon which models for theprevention and control of distal upper extremity disorders are constructed. Focus is on topics includinghuman anatomy, neurophysiology, electrophysiology, and worker capacity evaluation. Prerequisite: Approvalof instructor.681. Seminar in Environmental and Occpational Health. Not for credit. Provides an opportunity fornew students to become familiar with departmental research activities. First-year students describeproposed research; second-year students present results from original research. Students also discussthesis proposal preparation. May be repeated.682. Industrial and System Safety. Credit 3. Course covers general concepts and techniques of safetyupon which more detailed and advanced applications may be based. In addition, concepts will includecurrent system safety analysis techniques, failure mode and effect and fault tree analysis, as well as economicanalysis for presentation of alternative solutions for problem solving. Prerequisite: Approval ofinstructor.684. Practicum. Credit 3 to 6. Field placement experience in which students work closely with a departmentalfaculty member and (an) appropriate field professional(s) applying skills and techniques acquiredthrough coursework. Prerequisite: Approval by student’s academic advisor. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactorygrade option only.685. Directed Study. Credit 1 to 3. Student investigation of a topic not covered by other formal courses.Prerequisite: Approval by student’s academic advisor. May be repeated for a maximum of six credits.Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading option or standard grading option to be determined by the instructorand applied to all students registered for the course. Grading option will be determined prior to thefirst class day and outlined in the course syllabus and not be altered once the course has begun.686. Directed Research. Credit 1 to 3.
