174 Degree Information/The Degree of Master of Water ManagementThe final examination covers all work taken on the degree plan and at the optionof the committee may be written or oral or both. The examination is conducted by thestudent’s advisory committee as finally constituted. Persons other than members of thegraduate faculty may, with mutual consent of the candidate and the major professor, attendfinal examinations for advanced degrees. Upon completion of the questioning ofthe candidate, all visitors must excuse themselves from the proceedings. A positive voteby all members of the graduate committee with at most one dissension is required to passa student on his or her exam. An interdisciplinary degree program can have a stricterrequirement provided there is consistency within the interdisciplinary program.Exam results must be submitted with original signatures of only the committee membersapproved by the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies. If an approved committeemember substitution (1 only) has been made, his/her signature must also be submittedto the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies.Application for Degree<strong>Graduate</strong> degrees are conferred at the close of each regular semester and 10-weeksummer semester. A candidate for an advanced degree who expects to complete his/herwork at the end of a given semester must apply for graduation by submitting the electronicapplication for degree to the Office of the Registrar and by paying the requiredgraduation fee to the Fiscal Department no later than the Friday of the second week ofthe fall or spring semester or the Friday of the first week of the first summer term. Theelectronic application for degree can be accessed via the student’s Howdy portal.A cancellation made after the application deadline will not receive a refund of thediploma fee. Students who have completed all their degree requirements will notbe allowed to cancel their graduation. The Registrar attempts each semester to balancethe size of each ceremony. Thus, the make-up of the ceremony by colleges does changefrom semester to semester. Graduation times are posted each semester on the website ofthe Office of the Registrar. A student should check the website at graduation.tamu.edu todetermine the date and time of the graduation ceremony.The Degree of Master of Wildlife ScienceThe Master of Wildlife Science (MWSC) degree is designed for a student whowants professional graduate training with a management or policy orientation in wildlifeor natural resources. It is intended to emphasize the problem solving skills involved inthe use of science and technology to benefit humanity, not as a research degree.An individual with a baccalaureate degree from a college or university of recognizedstanding or qualified Texas A&M University seniors during his/her last semester may applyfor admission to graduate studies to pursue the non-thesis degree of Master of WildlifeScience. The candidate’s advisory committee shall specify prerequisite work wherenecessary.The student must demonstrate problem solving capabilities. Degree candidates maygain such capabilities by completing a professional internship that is designed to providemeaningful, applied, practical experiences, and which may vary in duration from threeto nine months depending on departmental requirements.It is possible for working professionals to fulfill the degree requirements for the Masterof Wildlife Science via distance education. The degree may be earned in the Departmentof Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences.
