288 Texas A&M University at GalvestonStudent’s Advisory Committee (SAC)1. For the MS degree:The Committee consists of at least three members, each of whom must have a graduatefaculty appointment at TAMUCC or Texas A&M or TAMUS Participating <strong>Graduate</strong>Faculty. The Chair of the Committee must be a faculty member in one of theparticipating departments and be a formal member of the MARB IDPs PGF. At leastone member must be from a different academic department than those departmentsparticipating in the program.2. For the PhDdegree:The Committee consists of at least four members, each of whom must have a graduatefaculty appointment at TAMUCC or Texas A&M. The Chair (or co-Chair) of theCommittee must be a faculty member of one of the participating departments andbe a formal member of the MARB IDPs PGF. At least one member must be from adifferent academic department other than the participating departments.3. External Committee Members:Committee members outside the University, e.g., qualified scientists at other academicinstitutions, governmental agencies, or industries, will be authorized as AssociateAdjunct or special appointment <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty, for both MS and PhD committeeservice, if they have expertise beneficial to the guidance and/or completion of thestudent’s research. The external member may not constitute one of the three (MS) orfour (PhD) required committee members. The OGAPS, Texas A&M, must approveall external committee members before they may serve on a committee. Categoriesand requirements of graduate faculty members are described in the Texas A&M<strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong>.The Degree PlanStudents, in conjunction with their committee chairs and committee members, willchoose courses in the degree plan. The limitations on certain courses are described inthe Texas A&M or TAMUCC <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong>s. Guidelines for the use of transferand certain other courses in the PhD program can be found in Texas A&M <strong>Graduate</strong><strong>Catalog</strong>.Time LimitAll degree requirements for the MS and PhD must be completed within 7 and 10 years,respectively, of entering the degree program, in accordance with provisions contained inthe Texas A&M <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong>.Applications and DeadlinesAll applications and deadlines will be in accordance with provisions of the OGAPS,Texas A&M and the TAMUCC OGS.Examinations1. For the MS degree:A final examination will be required of both thesis option and non-thesis optionstudents. The examination will cover all fields of general biology, as well as the specificresearch topic in the case of thesis option students. Thesis option students mayschedule the final examination after completion of all coursework and after at leastthe first draft of the thesis has been submitted to their committee for review. Non-
