Degree Information 47Certification in Hispanic Bilingual Education. The Department of EducationalPsychology at Texas A&M University offers a Certification Program in Hispanic BilingualCertification. This certification can be transcripted and meets the requirements ofthe Texas State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC). This certification is appropriatefor Hispanic Bilingual classroom teachers. It requires the following coursework: HispanicBilingual Assessment and Monitoring; Dual Language Programs Methodologies;Content Area Instruction for Hispanic Bilingual Programs; Biliteracy for Hispanic BilingualStudents; and Bilingual and Dual Language Classroom for Hispanic Students.Certificate in Historic Preservation. Based in the College of Architecture, the Certificatein Historic Preservation is open to students in a graduate degree program atTexas A&M University. This cross-disciplinary program draws on strong disciplinebasedacademic programs that prepare graduates to further their career goals. The certificateassumes that historic preservation is a cross-disciplinary field, and the program isdesigned to ensure that students gain a sense of mutual respect for others in the field, andappropriate awareness, understanding, and ability within a specific body of knowledge.<strong>Graduate</strong> Certificate in Homeland Security consists of 15 credit hours of webbased,distance education instruction surveying the dimensions of homeland securityand defense, from the traditional concepts of public safety to the emerging conceptsof anti-terrorism and public security. The program is designed for individuals seekingcareers with management or policy responsibilities at various levels of government, businessor the military. After a required gateway seminar, students select from a menu ofelectives dealing with such topics as cyber security; business resillience and continuity;border security; the unconventional threat to the nation; homeland security and thelaw; and maritime security. The certificate is available only online—it is not offered inresidence. Applicants must have an accredited bachelor’s degree and meet other entryqualifications to be admitted to graduate study at Texas A&M University specificallyfor this certificate. Students who are currently enrolled in a graduate degree program atTexas A&M University may take individual courses. However, they must formally enrollin the certificate program, and meet certificate completion requirements to gain thecertificate. Certificate notation and grades for courses taken as part of this program willappear on the student’s official Texas A&M University transcript. The program prepares studentswith the unique knowledge and skills required to apply human resource managementtheories at any level in businesses or not-for-profit organizations. The certificate programconsists of 14 semester hours of coursework. Grades for courses taken as partof this program will appear on the official transcript, together with a notation that thecertificate has been achieved.
