90 Degree Information/The Degree of Master of Architectureallowed to cancel their graduation. The Registrar attempts each semester to balancethe size of each ceremony. Thus, the makeup of the ceremony by colleges does changefrom semester to semester. Graduation times are posted each semester on the website ofthe Office of the Registrar. A student should check the website at graduation.tamu.edu todetermine the date and time of his/her graduation ceremony.The Degree of Master of BiotechnologyThe Master of Biotechnology (MBIOT) is designed for a student who wants professionalgraduate training with an industry orientation in the life sciences. It is intendedto emphasize the use of problem solving and technical skills in the life sciences. TheMaster of Biotechnology degree program is non-thesis, interdisciplinary and jointlyadministered by five colleges (Agriculture and Life Sciences, Liberal Arts, Mays BusinessSchool, Science, Veterinary Medicine). Program administration includes a ProgramChair and Faculty of Biotechnology. This program is one of a select few nationally that isdesigned to cut across the business and life science disciplines to better prepare a studentfor the variety of career pathways associated with the life science industries. It is a degreecombining business and science and requires the completion of a minimum of 39 hoursof coursework and a satisfactory comprehensive final exam.An individual with a baccalaureate degree in a life science field from a college or universityof recognized standing, or a qualified senior in his/her last semester, may applyfor admission to the program. As a result of the combination of professional and technicalclasses, prerequisites may be required before a student can take the core curriculumcourses. The Program Chair will specify prerequisite work when necessary.Residence (See Residence Requirements, page 34.)In partial fulfillment of the residence requirement for the degree of Master of Biotechnology,the student must complete 9 credit hours during one regular semester or one10-week summer semester in resident study at Texas A&M University. Upon recommendationof the student’s advisory committee and with approval of the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong>and Professional Studies, a student may be granted exemption from this requirement.Such a petition must be approved, however, prior to the student’s registration for thefinal 9 credit hours of required coursework.Students who are employed full-time while completing their degree may fulfill totalresidence requirements by completion of less-than-full time course loads each semester.In order to be considered for this, the student is required to submit a Petition for Waiversand Exceptions along with verification of his/her employment to the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong>and Professional Studies.Student’s Advisory CommitteeAfter receiving admission to graduate studies and before enrolling for coursework,the student will consult with the Professional Program in the Biotechnology Office. Thestudent’s advisory committee for the master’s degree will consist of no fewer than threemembers (more than one department must be represented by the members of the advisorycommittee). The committee chair or co-chair of the advisory committee must be amember of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology and at least one or more of themembers must have graduate faculty membership through another academic program.
