68 Degree Information/The Degree of Master of ScienceExam results must be submitted with original signatures of only the committee membersapproved by the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies. If an approved committeemember substitution (1 only) has been made, his/her signature must also be submittedto the Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies.Thesis OptionAn acceptable thesis is required for the Master of Science degree for a student whoselects the thesis option program. The finished work must reflect a comprehensive understandingof the pertinent literature and express in clear English, the problem(s) forstudy, the method, significance and results of the student’s original research. Guidelinesfor the preparation of the thesis are available in the Thesis Manual, which is available onlineat thesis.tamu.edu.After successful defense (or exemption) and approval by the student’s advisory committeeand the head of the student’s major department (or chair of the intercollegiatefaculty, if appropriate), the student must submit his/her thesis to the Thesis Office inelectronic format as a single <strong>PDF</strong> file. The <strong>PDF</strong> file must be uploaded to the Thesis Officewebsite, thesis.tamu.edu. Additionally, a signed approval form must be brought ormailed to the Thesis Office. The <strong>PDF</strong> file and the signed approval form are required bythe deadline.Deadline dates for submitting the thesis are announced each semester or summerterm in the “Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies Calendar” (see Time Limitstatement). These dates also can be accessed via the website ogaps.tamu.edu/currentstudents/dates-and-deadlines/.Before a student can be “cleared” by the Thesis Office, a processing fee must be paidat the Fiscal Department. After commencement, theses are digitally stored and madeavailable through the Texas A&M Libraries.A thesis that is deemed unacceptable by the Thesis Office because of excessivecorrections will be returned to the student’s department head (or chair of theintercollegiate faculty, if applicable). The manuscript must be resubmitted as a newdocument, and the entire review process must begin again. All original submittal deadlinesmust be met during the resubmittal process to graduate that semester.Non-Thesis OptionFor the non-thesis option, a thesis is not required. A final comprehensive examinationis required for all non-thesis Master of Science programs except the Master of Scienceprograms offered by the Mays Business School and the Master of Science with a major inEducational Human Resource Development, HRD option. No exemptions are allowed.The requirements as to level of courses and examinations are the same as for the thesisoption Master of Science degree. The final exmination cannot be held prior to the midpoint of the final semester if questions on the examination are based on courses in whichthe student is currently enrolled.
