Office of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies 23The <strong>Graduate</strong> Council serves as a reporting committee to the Faculty Senate. The<strong>Graduate</strong> Council reviews all curricular requests pertaining to the graduate academicprogram, is responsible for the quality and development of the graduate instruction andprograms, and advises the Associate Provost for <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies onall graduate program matters. Each college has a committee on graduate instruction withthe responsibility for making recommendations concerning graduate course offerings,general policies on graduate instruction and for other matters pertaining to graduatestudies in that college. The chair of each committee on graduate instruction may be amember of the <strong>Graduate</strong> Council.The <strong>Graduate</strong> Operations Committee (GOC) serves as an advisory body to the AssociateProvost for <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies. It focuses primarily on operationsand procedures regarding administration of graduate education throughout the University.The GOC works very closely with the <strong>Graduate</strong> Council to coordinate all curriculumand policy issues. It also works closely with the Academic Operations Committee and theAcademic Program Council to consider recommendations concerning operations andprocedures. Each academic college is represented on the GOC by the associate dean (orother named individual) responsible for graduate studies in that college.<strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty MembershipGuidelines for <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty MembershipThis document presents University policies and practices which Department Headsshould use in nominating members to the <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty of Texas A&M University.Departments and colleges may have additional requirements that must be satisfied byindividuals wishing to be recommended for appointment to the <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty. Additionalrequirements are subject to the review and approval of the Associate Provost for<strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies. The following sections discuss the various categoriesof <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty. The final section discusses current policy for assigning titles tomembers of the <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty in the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong>.General Description of <strong>Graduate</strong> FacultyThe <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty at Texas A&M University consists of the President, the VicePresident for Academic Affairs, the Associate Provosts, the Deans of all subject-mattercolleges, selected Directors, and properly qualified academic groups appointed by theAssociate Provost for <strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies. Appointees to the <strong>Graduate</strong>Faculty participate in the graduate degree programs of the University by serving on studentadvisory committees and teaching graduate courses. Individuals who have not beenappointed to the <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty may not teach graduate courses or serve on studentadvisory committees unless special approval is granted by the Associate Provost for<strong>Graduate</strong> and Professional Studies.The <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty is composed of Members, Associate Members, AdjunctMembers, and Special Appointments. Members and Associate Members are selectedfrom qualified individuals of the academic staff of Texas A&M University, from the staffof other parts of the University, from The Texas A&M University System, and from affiliatedresearch organizations (such as USDA) located in College Station, Texas.
