Once we’ve set our sightson creating a software emulation of a particular kind of amp, we will (and have) scourthe globe in search of just the right specimen—that one, very particular amplifier thathas the magic. We are also intensely mindful of the fact that, although amp modelnames may stay the same over the years, the circuit designs sometimes change radically.Amps from ’57, ’62, ’65, ’67, ’75, and 2001 may all bear the same model name, yetsometimes have totally different sound and response, and quite often a different look aswell. And as we all know, even two amps with the same circuit design, from the sameera, can sound radically different, just on the basis of variance in component tolerances,among other things. Plus, there’s the fact that every amp has its own special way ofsettling in over the years. And, just like people, some of them only get better with age.That’s exactly why we went to so much trouble to find the very best examples we couldof every amp that we wanted to model for Bass PODXT’s.
