We have tosee that God the bountiful and prodigal creator, God thehelpful, strong and benignant preserver is also God the devourerand destroyer. The torment of the couch of pain andevil on which we are racked is his touch as much as happinessand sweetness and pleasure. It is only when we seewith the eye of the complete union and feel his truth in thedepths of our being that we can entirely discover behindthat mask too the calm and beautiful face of the all-blissfulGodhead and in this touch that tests our imperfection thetouch of the friend and builder of the spirit in man.
