NguyenPlate 6.1 CBF harvest in Dozer wewa, Sri Lanka in 2003Box 6.1 The CBF Development in Dozer wewa (Kukulkatuwa wewa),Sri Lanka<strong>In</strong> the late 2002, the research team <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Kelaniya and NAQDAvisited several reservoirs and participated in the Kanna meetings <strong>of</strong> the FOs,the community meetings held at the beginning <strong>of</strong> the cropping season, whichis the major event in the village. At these meetings, the ACIAR-funded projecton the development <strong>of</strong> CBF through community participation was introducedto the FOs. <strong>In</strong> Dozer wewa (or Kukulkatuwa wewa) (13.58 ha;Maximum depth 3 m; 06°26 ¢ 37.54″N, 81°19 ¢ 17.34″E), all the agriculturalfarmers, except one (Mr. Karunadasa) showed their unwillingness to adoptCBF. Mr. Karunadasa, perhaps, owing to his entrepreneurship attitude,showed his willingness to adopt CBF in Dozer wewa. Accordingly, he hasstocked the reservoir with the courtesy <strong>of</strong> the FO <strong>of</strong> this reservoir in December2002. The species combination used was 30% common carp, 40% bigheadcarp, 20% rohu/mrigal, and 10% freshwater prawn. The stocking density was2,165 fingerlings per ha. The total number <strong>of</strong> fingerlings stocked was 29,500and the cost <strong>of</strong> fingerlings was Rs. 44,250. The ACIAR-funded reservoirfisheries project paid 50% <strong>of</strong> the fingerling cost. The composition <strong>of</strong> theharvest (in kg per ha) at the end <strong>of</strong> the culture period <strong>of</strong> about 9 months inSeptember 2003 was as follows:(continued)
