She has a wide and up-to-date knowledge on population genetics,phylogenetics, conservation genetics, and applications thereof. She has beeninvolved in a number of projects in the Asia-Pacific region pertaining to applicationof molecular genetics to broodstock management and conservation of aquaticspecies (e.g., in the case of mahseer species in Sarawak, Malaysia and the criticallyendangered Mekong giant catfish), capacity building in the use of genetictools in aquaculture and fishery management. Thuy is experienced in organizingtraining courses as part of the work program at NACA. She conducted two successfulhand-on training courses in application of molecular genetic tools in aquacultureand inland fisheries management, in conjunction with the Food andAgriculture Organisation (FAO), Kasetsart University and Department of FisheriesThailand, and the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, India, and a trainingcourse on conservation genetics in conjunction with the University SainsMalaysia. Thuy has authored/co-authored 25 publications in peer-reviewed internationaljournals, two manuals, one book chapter, a number of popular articles,and edited one book. Thuy is co-supervising a number of students undertakingpostgraduate studies. Heis also specialized in postdisaster and postconflict aquaculture rehabilitation anddevelopment activities. During 2001–2005, he worked as Project Supervisor forMPEDA-NACA project in India. He has extensive experience with aquaculture in Asia,working for FAO, the Asian Institute of Technology and, since 1994, with theNetwork of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA). In his position asManager of Research and Development Programs and Environment Specialist atNACA, Dr Phillips manages a wide range of aquaculture projects and developmentinitiatives throughout the Asian region, including pioneering work on environmentalmanagement of shrimp farming, which received a World Bank Green Award in2006. As head of the Fisheries Research Organization, Agricultural ResearchCouncil of Nepal, he was responsible for planning, programming, and implementationof research and development activities, launched different projects supportedby different international donors, and acted as consultant for carp culture developmentin Papua New Guinea, Rainbow trout culture in Chengmai, Thailand, aquaticecologist for ecological studies and impact assessment, aquaculture consultants forsmall scale farmers, and short-term FAO aquaculture consultant. Rai is the recipientof the Mahendra Bidhyabhusan Padak (Ka), RONAST Science and TechnologyPromotion Award for the contribution to fisheries research and development inNepal, and has published over 80 papers in national and international journals.
