PrefaceWe are moving into a turbulent and an uncertain era, particularly in respect of thefuture food needs. Given the push to sustainability, the rise in food prices, and theimpending concerns around climate change and related complexity on providingthe food needs for an increasing global population, it is time to address copingstrategies. It is in this context that the issue on where will aquaculture developmentmove in the future is taken up. It is our belief that one of the best options availablein this regard is to address what we can learn from “success,” and consequently, what types of lessons learned are likely to be most useful in guiding future aquaculturedevelopment? We feel that the past successes of Asian aquaculture, which is the main driver inglobal aquaculture developments in the last three to four decades, have a great dealto contribute towards guiding its future development.
