Asoka, pers. comm.)<strong>In</strong> recognition <strong>of</strong> the importance <strong>of</strong> the ACIAR-funded project’s findings withrespect to the region, ACIAR has also supported a further project to disseminatethese findings through the intergovernmental agency, NACA (<strong>Network</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Aquaculture</strong> Centres in Asia-Pacific), a regional organization comprising 17 membercountries. Consequently, three workshops were held in <strong>In</strong>donesia, Laos, andCambodia to disseminate the Sri Lankan and Vietnam project results and to evaluatethe adoption <strong>of</strong> the findings, suitably modified, in other countries. A monographon better practice approaches for CBF development in Asia (De Silva et al .2006) was published by NACA (http://library.enaca.org/NACA-Publications/CBF_manual.pdf).6.7 VietnamRecent statistics show that Vietnam has about 4,000 reservoirs with a total area <strong>of</strong>340,000 ha (Ngo and Le 2001) . Most <strong>of</strong> these reservoirs were built for the purpose<strong>of</strong> hydro-electricity generation, flood control, and irrigation. Small reservoirs weremainly built to store stream water to support agricultural activities in dry season.Fish stocking in reservoirs, <strong>of</strong> approximately 1,000 ha or less, dates back to 1962and was carried out through the governmental institutions until the opening <strong>of</strong> the
