Enrollment Status and Normal Study LoadFull-time status as a graduate student at Rockhurst University is defined as a minimumenrollment of nine semester hours during the Fall and Spring semesters, 4.5 semesterhours during the Summer semester. However, the normal class schedule for full-timegraduate students varies according to the student’s program. No student may registerfor more than 18 semester hours without permission of the appropriate dean. Half-timestatus during Fall and Spring semesters is 4.5 semester hours, 3 semester hours during theSummer semester.Program ProgressionA student enrolled in any graduate program at Rockhurst University must satisfy thespecific requirements of the individual program to progress through that graduate program.Students should refer to the sections of this Catalog that state the academic policiesfor the program(s) for which he or she is enrolled.Probation and DismissalEach graduate student is expected to maintain both a semester and cumulative grade pointaverage (GPA) of 3.0. Failure to achieve the 3.0 GPA will result in the student being placedon academic probation by the graduate program. Once placed on academic probation, thefull-time student must raise their semester and cumulative GPA to a minimum of 3.0 in onefull-time semester of at least nine semester hours of coursework. A part-time student mustraise their cumulative GPA to a minimum of 3.0 in their next two consecutive semesters.Individual programs may have additional requirements. Failure to achieve the required 3.0GPA in the required timeline will result in dismissal from the program.A letter grade of “F” or “WF” automatically results in dismissal from a program. Allsuch actions taken by the program directors are reported to the appropriate academicdean and Registrar. After dismissal, students can apply for readmission only once to thesame program.Any full- or part-time graduate student who is provisionally admitted to a programbased on an inadequate incoming GPA must achieve a 3.0 semester GPA in their firstsemester or he/she will be dismissed from the program and would not be eligible forreadmission.ReadmissionAction to readmit a student who has been dismissed from or voluntarily withdrawn froma graduate program in less than good standing may be taken by the director of thatprogram. Any such action is to be reported to the appropriate academic dean and Registrar.Degree CandidacyApplications for degree candidacy can be obtained from the individual graduate programoffices. Students must file for degree candidacy in accordance with the deadline published bythe Registrar in the Academic Calendar at the Rockhurst University website. The deadlineis during the semester before the student’s graduation: September 30 for May or Augustgraduation; March 30 for December graduation. Students who file their degree candidacyforms after the published deadline will be assessed a late fee. Failure to meet deadline dates mayaffect a student’s participation in commencement and/or receipt of diploma. Once the forms arereceived by the Registrar’s Office, a review is made of the student’s academic record to ensurethat they have met the requirements of the degree the student seeks.Graduate Programs271
